Samping the Culture of the Windy City

Chicago is most often a business travel destination but there are some wonderful cultural sights and plenty of shopping too.

Most anyone who travels to Chicago either has family in the area, or they’re being sent to a business convention by their job. The Windy City is the number one convention destination in the US, the result of a key location near population and as a major airline hub. When you get a break it the business action, it’s nice to appreciate the city for some of its pleasures.

Chicago ranks highly with those who enjoy a good museum. Ever see the movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off?” The Art Institute's Museums are featured as a city sight, and you might try doing your own Ferris Bueller Tour of Chicago. Another great art destination is the Field Museum, which has stunning natural and cultural collections as well as feature exhibits.

The Magnificent Mile is a section of downtown famous for being just the thing for those who shop ‘til they drop. This row of eight city blocks features over four hundred high-end and brand-name stores. You’ll find more than enough food and restaurants in that same area to keep you fortified until you’ve hit your spending max.

One thing to enjoy about Chicago is that you can get from O’Hare Airport into the city via transit if you want to skip a rental car. The trains run right out to the airport and can whisk you back the Loop in a short amount of time. If you aren’t traveling for business, be sure to check what conventions will be in town during your stay, so that you can book a hotel that’s not overflowing with conventioneers, especially if traveling over spring or summer extended weekends (aka prime convention time).
