Greenwich Village is still one of my favorite haunts in New York City. I could just walk in and out of shops all day, whether I'm actually buying anything or just looking. Many of the stores are still small boutiques, where you have to squeeze up and down tiny aisles or you find yourself trying to look at merchandise that the shopkeepers have hung up the walls all the way up to the ceiling.
And when I get tired of walking, I like to pull over and grab a slice of genuine NY pizza and just watch the various characters go by on the street.
This week two of my favorite high school NY haunts announced their respective closures. Tower Records and CBGBs. We used to start at the downtown Tower, and then work out way over to the CBGBs to catch a band or two at the all-ages show before having to race back to the Path tube station to make it back to NJ before dark.
Thanks for the memories!
